BEFORE DARKNESS FALLS - SA/SP 2012-04-02

Las Vegas 26 août 1973 dinner show et midnight show
Las Vegas August 26, 1973 dinner show and midnight show

Opening69

Elvis' 1973 "Summer Festival" was his ninth month-long stand in Las Vegas since July-August 1969. Reviews noted his excess weight and half-hearted performances. But, despite bad press, health issues and a 1967 marriage that would soon end in divorce, Presley slowly warmed to his always-thrilled fans.

The songs here, from his Sunday shows on August 26th, 1973, are a good example of this warmth. At both shows Elvis welcomed the presence of Lisa, his beloved daughter, then just five and-a-half years old. Obviously, she provided additional inspiration for her dad. In fact, there are several rare highlights, including "A Big Hunk O' Love," "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face," "Release Me" and "How Great Thou Art." And for fans of legendary bass player Emory Gordy, Jr., these would be among the last dates he would ever do with Presley.

Both the Dinner and Midnight sets are taken from a 24-bit digital transfer of the first-generation copy of a privately-recorded 120-minute cassette. The sound was painstakingly restored for your listening pleasure.

The August 26th, 1973 Dinner show is previously unissued, while the Midnight show was released in substandard mono by Memory Records in 2002 ("Caught In The Act"). Straight Arrow presents both shows in superb, "two-mike live ambience" stereo sound.

Like its predecessors from Straight Arrow Special Products mini series, this new release will be presented in a beautiful digipack with all the necessary information as well as a collection of photos taken during the September 1st, 1973 dinner show.

WATCHING DREAMS TURN INTO ASHES - SA/SP 2012-05-02

Las Vegas 2 septembre 1973 dinner show et midnight show
Las Vegas September 2nd, 1973 dinner show and midnight show

Opening69

As Elvis wound down his seventh visit to Las Vegas, he probably felt a mixture of elation, depression and nervous anticipation. The shows in August and September 1972 were sold out, professional and well-received. He looked great and sang like a bird, as these two previously unreleased sterling performances on September 2 clearly prove. But in mid-August it was reported he had filed a divorce action in Santa Monica Court from his wife Priscilla. Then, immediately prior to his closing show, Elvis participated in a press announcement for a January 14 worldwide satellite broadcast of "Aloha From Hawaii" to an estimated total TV audience of 1.4 billion people. 1973 would be a year of enormous highs and tremendous lows, as Elvis began to watch his dreams turn into ashes.

These previously unissued Dinner and Midnight sets are taken from 24-bit digital transfers of the first-generation copies of privately-recorded cassettes. They were recorded by the same fan and are presented in superb monaural sound.

Like its predecessors from Straight Arrow Special Products mini series, this new release will be presented in a beautiful digipack with all the necessary information as well as a collection of photos of Elvis in his "Blue Swirl suit" suit as taken at the Hilton in late August / early September 1972.

If you liked Straight Arrow's previous outing "BEFORE DARKNESS FALLS", you will like this one, too!

LONESOME SUMMER BREEZE - SA/SP 2012-07-02

Las Vegas 25 août 1972 dinner show
Las Vegas August 25, 1972 dinner show

Opening69

In August 1972, Elvis was a lean & mean rock & roll machine. He was still just as good as he was in 1970, but the experience that he had gained since then had made him into a mesmerizing performer. In every show that year you could see that he meant business, and like a starved predator he went straight for the jocular, taking no prisoners and knocking out audiences night after night. He was performing with a consistently high standard, and the Madison Square Garden shows show him at the apex of his performing abilities.

The show on this disc was recorded roughly two months later, and the same high standard is obvious right from the get-go. This topnotch audience recording dates from Friday, August 25th, 1972 (Dinner show). Elvis could do no wrong in this period of time, and thankfully, someone was there to capture it all. This previously unreleased concert was taped by the same super-fan who recorded the concerts that were released on "LABOR DAY MADNESS" and "WATCHING DREAMS TURN INTO ASHES".

As you have come to expect from Straight Arrow, the recording is of very good audio quality, sourced from a first-generation, 1981 cassette copy of the original mono tape. Small portions of the show were skillfully repaired using secondary source to make the recording complete. If you liked this labels previous 1972 releases - then brace yourself, because this is a keeper!

01. Introduction: Also Sprach Zarathustra - 02. C. C. Rider - 03. Johnny B. Goode - 04. Proud Mary - 05. Until It's Time For You To Go - 06. You Don't Have To Say You Love Me - 07. You Gave Me A Mountain - 08. You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin' - 09. Polk Salad Annie -10. What Now My Love - 11. Fever - 12. Love Me - 13. Blue Suede Shoes - 14. Heartbreak Hotel - 15. All Shook Up - 16. Little Sister / Get Back - 17. Love Me Tender - 18. Walk That Lonesome Road (J. D. Sumner and the Stamps) - 19. Suspicious Minds - 20. Introduction of musicians - 21. My Way - 22. A Big Hunk O' Love - 23. An American Trilogy - 24. Can't Help Falling In Love - 25. Closing Vamp / Announcements.

A NEW, MUST-OWN DOUBLE CD RELEASE FROM THE CELEBRATED STRAIGHT ARROW LABEL:

As the final month of 1976 rolled around, Elvis arrived in Las Vegas for what would be his 15th and final visit as a performer, playing 15 concerts to some very mixed press reviews. Still, the fans always came, and sometimes Presley showed more than a hint of the magic that made him the greatest singer of all.

On this collection are the second and third appearances of the ten-day stand, and Elvis is in quite good form, including seasonal favorite "Blue Christmas" along with favorites like "Tryin' To Get To You", "Bridge Over Troubled Water", "America the Beautiful" and the powerhouse gospel of "How Great Thou Art". As always, his rendition of "Hurt" is thrills both audiences. It was a Friday night to for any fan to savor throughout the holiday season. AMORE ELVIS! - SA/SP 2012-09-02

Las Vegas 29 mars 1975 dinner show et midnight show
Las Vegas March 29, 1975 dinner show and midnight show

Opening69

The Straight Arrow import label released the double CD-set "Amore Elvis" in their Special Products series. The set contains the Saturday, March 29, 1975 Dinner and Midnight Shows as recorded from the audience at the Las Vegas Hilton, Las Vegas, NV

From the pressrelease:
Straight Arrow is continuing their collector's series of 2 shows from one evening, released in a single package. This time the producers have chosen two excellent performances from Saturday, March 29, 1975 at the Las Vegas Hilton.

Elvis returned to Nevada in very good form when compared to his final shows of 1974. He included several cuts from soon-to-be-released "TODAY" album rather than some of his usual oldies. Presley's shows were shorter than his previous Vegas visit in August and September because he kept banter to a minimum.

On this collection there are worthy performances of "And I Love You So", "It's Midnight", "Big Boss Man", "Burning Love" and the powerful "My Boy". There are also some rarities, like a one-liner of "Rip It Up", "Tiger Man" not performed as a medley with "Mystery Train," and "Hawaiian Wedding Song" sung exclusively by Sherrill Nielsen.

As fans have come to expect, the tapes are of very good quality, sourced from early generation copies of original cassettes recorded by the same fan. The double digipak contains liner notes and is filled with photos from the March-April 1975 engagement. As usual, these recordings have been carefully engineered to be presented in the best possible sound.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT ROLL OVER! - SA/SP 2012-10-02

Las Vegas 26 mars 1975 dinner show et midnight show
Las Vegas March 26, 1975 dinner show and midnight show

Opening69

It's All About Elvis! A week into his March-April engagement at the Las Vegas Hilton, Elvis continued to offer generally dynamic performances, filled with good humour and a sense of fun. A good deal of the set from the midnight show on March 26, 1975 incorporated songs from his sessions at RCA Hollywood from earlier that month, all of which would appear on the Elvis Today album. Three-quarters of his two most recent singles received an airing as well, with "Promised Land" sounding frisky indeed. The often-lengthy, angry and too-revealing monologues from the previous summer in Las Vegas were now gone.

On this set is a superb-quality off-line recording of the entire show, and itís a delight. There are commendable performances of "I'll Remember You" (with a quick one-liner of Dionne Warwick's 1967 hit "Alfie" at the start), 'It's Midnight' (with a funny false start), 'Big Boss Man', "And I Love You So', 'Burning Love' and his current top-twenty RCA single, the dramatic "My Boy". Elvis even throws in the seldomly performed "Until It's Time For You To Go". Wednesday's child might have been full of woe, but Wednesday nightís gig at the Hilton is full of go-go-go!

As fans have come to expect, this recording is of very good quality, sourced from an early generation copy of the original cassette. It was recorded by the same fan who taped shows used for our previous release, "AMORE, ELVIS". The digipak contains excellent liner notes and is filled with photos from the March-April 1975 engagement. As usual, these recordings have been carefully engineered to be presented in the best possible sound. If you have enjoyed "AMORE ELVIS", you will love "WEDNESDAY NIGHT ROLL OVER"! That's a guarantee, baby!

Tracks: 01. Introduction: Also Sprach Zarathustra - 02. C. C. Rider - 03. I Got A Woman / Amen - 04. Love Me - 05. If You Love Me (Let Me Know) - 06. And I Love You So - 07. Big Boss Man - 08. It's Midnight (with false start) - 09. Promised Land - 10. Fairytale (with false start) - 11. Introduction of vocalists, musicians - 12. What'd I Say (James Burton) - 13. Drum Solo (Ronnie Tutt) - 14. Bass Solo (Duke Bardwell) - 15. Piano Solo (Glen D. Hardin) - 16. Electric Piano & Clavinet Solo (David Briggs) - 17. School Day - 18. My Boy - 19. C'est le même fan qui a déjà enregistré les 2 shows du 29 mars.

Straight Arrow is continuing their popular collector's series of 2 shows from one evening, released in a single package. This time the producers have chosen two excellent performances from Sunday, February 3, 1974 at the Las Vegas Hilton.

On this collection there are worthy performances of revived songs like "Tryin' To Get To Youî", "Sweet Caroline" and a powerful "Polk Salad Annie", The December '73 Stax sessions are represented here with pleasant renditions of "Spanish Eyes" and "Help Me". "An American Trilogy" is as powerful as ever and Elvis' passion for Olivia Newton-John's "Let Me Be There" is evident too, with the ending being reprised in both shows.

As fans have come to expect from us, the tapes are of very good quality, sourced from early generation copies of the original cassettes. The sound-quality is surprisingly good and you will feel that you are right in the middle of the crowd, cheering Elvis on as he delivers two solid, no-nonsense shows with plenty of highlights. His voice was strong and he was particularly impressive on songs like "Fairytale", "Trying To Get To You", "My Way" and "Hurt", with his voice really soaring on the high notes.

Whatever the reason may have been for Elvis "upping his game" on those two nights - some have suggested that it may have been due to the presence of several CBS execs - the Chicago '77 concerts now stand out as genuine highlights from those final, sad months in the life and career of Elvis Aaron Presley. Both recordings have a tremendous "you are there" feel to them. Presented with the professionalism that you have come to expect from us, don't miss this terrific release that will bring you back to those final glimpses of greatness of the greatest entertainer ever.

New York, Madison Square Garden, June 9, 1972 evening show

Straight Arrow is very proud to present LEFT A GOOD JOB IN THE CITY - Elvis' First Show In New York, June 9, 1972. We couldn't believe our luck when we were offered an original tape as recorded by a member of the audience that special night. For many years there was a recording in circulation that was basically unlistenable. With great anticipation we purchased this new tape, and imagine our excitement when we could hear for ourselves that this tape is indeed much better and clearer, and with a good bass definition. This must be the most historically important audience tape to have turned up in recent years from the concert years. The MSG Garden shows were a true career highlight for Elvis, and opening night on June 9, 1972 was The Night. Moments before this recording started, Jackie Kahane was boored off the stage, but all that was forgotten once Elvis stepped on stage.

He gave New York a night to remember. In fact, this may well be the best of the four MSG shows.

Elvis' performance is super-tight and his voice is just incredible. THIS is the show that the New York media all attended; and now, after 40 years, you can finally hear the actual performance that got him so many glowing reviews.

This new Straight Arrow release is the perfect companion to the recent Sony set "Prince From Another Planet", and one that you simply must own. This is one of Elvis' best and most critically acclaimed shows, and we consider it a sensation that this tape has turned up after all these years. The recording was carefully enhanced by some of the best audio people in the business (don't worry, no "No Noise" or other forms of audio squashing were used… A historical recording like this deserves respect, so we went the full nine yards to present this show in the best and most natural audio possible). By the way, the show includes a stunning "Bridge Over Troubled Water" - the only time he sang it in New York. Presented in the usual Straight Arrow fashion with topnotch 16-page booklet with photos from all four NYC shows as well as a terrific essay, this new release is a beauty that you can't afford to miss.
